5 Easy Steps For Glistening Windows
The warm weather is finally here, and that means it’s spring cleaning time. While cleaning, people tend to go straight to cleaning out their closets, sheds, and basements. This leaves other things to be overlooked, such as washing windows. Windows not only provide a view to the outside, but they also let natural light in, so why wouldn’t you want them clean? To get beautiful, glistening windows, follow these five easy steps.
- Remove any dust buildup – Brush the interior and exterior of windows with a soft-bristled brush or a microfiber towel to remove any cobwebs and loose dirt.
- Remove screens – Before washing windows, remove all screens. You can also brush these with a soft-bristled brush or a microfiber towel. Then wash them with a soft sponge and warm soapy water and leave them out to dry before replacing them.
- Wash with vinegar – Mix one part warm water with one part vinegar together to create a non-toxic, anti-bacterial washing solution. Use this solution with a soft sponge to gently clean the windows. Vinegar acts quickly to break down grime, and leaving your windows clean and streak free.
- Squeegee dry – Using a squeegee can help avoid streaks on the window panes as well. Start at the top corner of the window and work your way down and across, drying the squeegee off every time with a sponge.
- Dry window sills – Dry all window sills and window frames of excess water in order to avoid mold growth.
Window Washing Tips
- Wash windows on a cloudy day – The sunlight may make it easier to see dirt on the windows, but it dries them too quickly, leaving behind streak marks on the glass.
- Exterior windows – Exterior windows are exposed to more harsh elements than interior windows, so they may require a little more elbow-grease. Start by spraying the exterior windows with a hose. Saturate stuck on grime with vinegar for a few minutes before washing them. Then continue with the same steps as the interior windows.
- Clean windows frequently – Although cleaning your windows can be a pain, it can make a significant difference in your home. By cleaning your windows at least twice a year, you won’t just be able to see out, but it will also let more light in!
